Lime Wash Paint Ottawa FAQ's

A trowel is used to put Venetian Plaster on walls. It is a paste-like substance. Lime Wash is usually put on top of Venetian plaster to make it look cloudy, but Lime Paint, which is hand brushed lime paint, can make your walls look like they have venetian plaster and lime wash on them without actually covering them with stone plaster.

Lime wash and lime paint is used interchangeably online. We often say “lime wash paint”.

Venetian plaster is x2 – x4 the price of lime wash paint because of the skill and materials required.

Square foot pricing for lime wash panting starts for projects larger than 250sqf range between:
 $6/sqf to $12/sqf depending on the colour, application technique and heights/access.

There are 2 main factors why lime wash is more expensive than typical painting: 

1. Material
Natural lime paint and pigments are naturally sourced materials rather than mass produced paint.
 
2. Labour
Lime painting is more labour intensive than typical house painting. If you thought typical house painting was hard on the body, imagine hand-brushing your walls and ceilings in a artistic pattern and texture. 

Anyone can put lime paint on brush and apply it on a wall. True artisan lime painting requires more than just the finest tools and materials. To create a masterpiece, lime painting requires a precise brushstroke, pressure, and timing.

Yes lime wash paint is washable BUT it is only washable the final coat is sealed or we use a lime paint that has less grains in it.

Some sealers change the texture and sheen of the final finish. 

Examples of when you can use sealer:

• you have pets or family that would be touching the walls often
• in a commercial area where customers may touch that walls
• in bathrooms and washrooms

Examples of when you can leave lime wash paint unsealed sealed:

• On ceilings that will not be touched or not above a shower
• On walls that will not be touched often 
  
  Unsealed walls can be ‘touched up’ easier than sealed lime wash walls.
